History of Wyoming Avenue Church of Christ
The Church of Christ is built upon the scriptural context of its members reaching out to lost souls, teaching them about Christ’s death, burial, resurrection, and ascension to heaven. Further, that because of these events, Christ has redeemed us and if we abide by, and are obedient to his word, we will have a right to eternal life.
Ford Avenue Church of Christ was the parent congregation of Wyoming. The Wyoming Congregation is truly a family. The building was built with the love and building talents of the male members and the behind the scenes support of the sisters. In 1966, the vision of a new location became a reality and the doors of Wyoming opened. Forty members strong under the leadership of Bro. Zebedee Bishop the congregation slowly grew through many challenges. In 1973, Bro Dallas Walker became the minister and is to date still delivering powerful messages from the pulpit. In June 2004, the new building extension was dedicated and opened. Wyoming’s membership has grown to over 400 and the family environment is still very strong.
Located on the corner of Wyoming and Chippewa our congregation is a pillar in the community. Our canvassing the neighborhood, annual vacation bible class and school supplies give away exhibits community involvement and commitment. Through our radio program and prison ministry we are reaching beyond the community and having a positive impact on many outside our own backyard.
We invite with open arms all to come and worship with us!
